The Pressure Of Peristaltic Pump
Customers often ask how much pressure a peristaltic pump can produce. If you want to produce a very high pressure, can you use a peristaltic pump?
To understand this question, we must first understand how a peristaltic pump generates pressure. A peristaltic pump relies on rollers to squeeze a hose to transport liquid. In order to prevent liquid reflux, it must always maintain sealing. With sealing, a certain amount of pressure will be generated accordingly. So what does the size of the pressure have to do with? It has to do with the tightness of the compression tube. The looser the compression tube, the smaller the pressure and the longer the life of the hose. When it is loose and not sealed, there is no pressure; on the contrary, the tighter the compression tube, the greater the pressure. When it is tight to a certain extent, it will cause greater compression tube fatigue wear to the hose, and the hose life will be short.
In summary, the pressure of a peristaltic pump is determined by the compression tube gap. This is why the same model of peristaltic pumps are suitable for hose wall thickness. The size of the inner diameter and outer diameter is not the key. As long as the wall thickness is the same (the roller is long enough), the same pump head can be used. But the problem is, if the hose has the same 2.4mm wall thickness, there must be a certain error between manufacturers. Even if the hose is produced by the same manufacturer, there will be an error of ±0.1mm. For the pressure of the peristaltic pump, this 0.1mm error is enough to cause a large pressure difference. That is to say, under the condition of a certain pressure-tube gap, different hoses will have different pressures, and accordingly, the hose life will be different.
In practical applications, excellent peristaltic pump designs will have a pressure adjustment function to adapt to the size differences between different manufacturers, domestic and imported pump tubes. This function is crucial for pumps with a wall thickness of less than 2.4mm, because a small error will lead to a large pressure difference. Another application of this function is that it can be used in situations where different pressures are required, which can be achieved through pressure adjustment. Of course, the pressure range here must be within the range that the peristaltic pump can withstand.
The pressure range of peristaltic pumps with a wall thickness of 2.4mm or less is about 0-0.25Mpa; the pressure range of peristaltic pumps with a wall thickness of 4.8mm or more is about 0-0.6Mpa. The main factor affecting the pressure of the peristaltic pump is the wall thickness of the hose. The thicker the wall thickness, the greater the pressure bearing capacity of the hose, and the greater the pressure that can be achieved.
If the pressure required by the customer is greater than 0.6Mpa, it is not recommended to use a peristaltic pump. The main advantage of a peristaltic pump is hygiene and no cross-contamination, but it is not as good as a plunger pump and a gear pump in dealing with very high-pressure problems. Among them, the plunger pump is the pump that can achieve the highest pressure among all pumps.
